Ladakh
In September 2012, I traveled to Ladakh, a Tibetan Buddhist area in the far north of India. The monasteries in Ladakh are massive and colorful. The monks arise at dawn and call all to prayer with conch shells, then they chant sutras accompanied by horns and drums. The women of Ladakh wear Peraks (hats) covered with the family wealth in turquoise.
